What can you use the app for?

Nota is a web application that allows you to create an online notebook. This is a collaborative application which makes it possible to share and work together on pretty much any form of document. The application to design the notebook is very easy, and you can effortlessly add video, maps, and photos, images from your webcam and text to your publication. You can also attach images from Flickr as long as they are not licensed. The publication can then be added straight to your blog or website, or emailed to someone else. People can also be added to become editors of the publication which makes it easy to work together on various projects.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Nota Inc was incorporated in 2007 by Isshu Rakusai. The website, Notaland wasn’t launched until April 2008. Rakusai was also the person that developed the technology that powers Notaland. Notaland is becoming increasingly popular as it allows multiple people to work together at the same time. This ensures that the job is done right the first time round without having to worry about revisions or changes.

What are the differences to other apps?

Unlike other applications notaland works without any download, it runs directly in your browser and works very quickly. Because there is little or no lag working with it is a real pleasure. It actually makes it a useful tool rather than just a gimmick. Powerful tools are also included such as the ability to add photos taken with your webcam straight to the interactive white board. The white boards can then be sent to someone by email, or embedded into other sites. This is a great tool to make sure that everyone is on the same page, and much less frustrating than a meeting.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

Using Notaland is very easy; you are talked through many of the aspects of using the application. At first you need to enter the name for your new notebook and choose whether you want it to be public or private. That’s all that’s to it, now you have an online notebook where you can type, add content and do many other things. You can then easily share this notebook with other people and allow certain people to become editors. It looks very similar to any other word processor and so is a delight to use.

How does the registration process work?

Creating a notaland account is especially easy; from the homepage there is a link to create your account. You just need to fill out your username, email address and password. Then once you have clicked the finish button you will be redirected to your nota page. It’s then a matter of creating your very first notebook. You will be sent an email; however you do not have to do anything to confirm your address. NB: If you already have an account for PhotoPeach then you do not need to sign up, you can just use this account.

What does it cost to use the application?

Notaland is completely free to use and there do not seem to be any paid subscriptions. There don’t even seem to be any adverts supporting the site.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Notaland is a very useful tool as it allows you to create an online notebook which you can then share with anyone you want. You can also allow other people to edit the notebook which makes it easier to get what you want.

  • Easy to use
  • Work together with other people to get the right result the first time
  • Compatible with touch screen systems
  • Embed the whiteboard onto other web pages; changes are automatically updated when you make them.
  • Integrated chat makes it possible to talk to up to 50 people
